East Sussex, Hastings

From concept to implementation this garden was developed with the focus on family living, interaction and spaces to live life alfresco.  The pond evolved in to a natural swimming pond looking over the English Channel where on a clear day you can see the cliffs of France.

The garden boasts a green rooved family area clad in recycled wood from the clients previous garden make over and applied the method Shou Sugi Ban to bring out the patina and durability of the timber.  Being open to coastal environments this method has breathed new life for this otherwise wood burner fuel timber.  The space works alongside Station black porcelain to provide a modern living space.  This leads on to the sloped roof kitchen area laid with local recycled tiles.

The garden hosts a natural swimming pond with a bridge that forms part of the circulation throughout the garden, sweeping you through beautifully planted spaces, an existing Rhododendron crown lifted as part of the original design and then planting flowing in to a wild flower meadow as the path leads you to the hills of Fairlight.

A series of zones offer you options of where to take your journey as well as a production garden space and the installation of a fish pond by the upper terrace.  The clients have adorned the garden with eclectic sculptures and interactive furniture that personalises the space and gives it its own character which reflects the family and their passions.
