At Pebble Garden Design, we created a bespoke garden design in Broomfield, Chelmsford for a young family who wanted a practical yet beautiful outdoor space. Our design focused on functionality, accessibility, and creating areas that could grow with the family over time.

The development of this garden design in Broomfield focused on improving access and usability throughout the outdoor space. We introduced a new patio area that draws you into the garden and opens up a layout that maximises every inch of space while keeping a generous lawn for the children to enjoy. Professional turfing was completed to provide a smooth, durable surface that would stay lush and resilient through family use.

Limestone paving, a bespoke pergola, and a retaining wall transformed this area into an intimate family zone and a welcoming sun trap. The Millboard decking includes two access points: a long, low step that doubles as informal seating, and another set of steps that leads down to a lower patio—perfect for outdoor dining or entertaining.

To make the garden even more family-friendly, we created a dedicated children’s play area at the back of the garden. This space was designed with safety and creativity in mind, surfaced with rubber chippings to provide a soft, impact-absorbing base. It offers a secure and fun environment for play while blending seamlessly with the overall garden design.

The planting scheme was selected for low maintenance, durability, and year-round visual appeal—ideal for a busy family lifestyle. Structural evergreens provide form, while flowering perennials and grasses add texture and seasonal colour. The lawn is neatly framed with metal edging to preserve crisp lines and make mowing easier, keeping the garden’s clean, modern look intact.

Throughout this Broomfield garden project, our goal was to balance beauty with practicality. The new design offers multiple zones for relaxation, play, and entertaining, all while maintaining a strong visual connection between materials and planting. A planned future addition of a garden room will further enhance how the space supports the family’s lifestyle.
