This garden design in Hutton, Essex was driven by the client’s desire for vibrant, low-maintenance planting that could transform the existing border layout. With the area receiving full sun throughout the day, the design needed to include plants that would thrive in heat and drought-tolerant conditions, while still delivering strong structure and colour.

We developed a Mediterranean-style planting plan and provided visualisations to help the client envision the final look. A palette of architectural palms, scented climbers and sun-loving perennials was selected to create height, movement and year-round interest. The tall palms stand proudly against the contemporary black fencing, offering a bold contrast and creating an instant sense of destination in the garden.

To ensure seasonal fragrance and softness, we installed stainless-steel training wires for evergreen jasmine, which brings deep summer scent and elegant foliage. To complete the look, corten-effect planters were sourced and placed around the home and seating area, adding warm tones and enhancing the Mediterranean feel.

The result is a bright, characterful and resilient garden space that delivers colour, scent and texture with minimal maintenance — perfectly tailored to the client’s lifestyle and aesthetic preferences.
