This garden design in Keston, Kent began with a sloping, uneven space that was difficult to use, with overgrown planting and no defined structure. The clients wanted to revitalise the garden in time for their daughter’s hen-do and to create a space they could enjoy for years to come. A corner of the garden received the evening sun but was under-utilised, so the design focused on turning this into a private seating area.

We provided a full design service including 3D visuals and planting plans to help the clients envision their new space. A gravel-grid terrace was installed and retained with aluminium edging to achieve crisp, modern lines. The old fencing was replaced with a taller boundary to improve privacy and provide a clean backdrop for planting.

Pleached trees were introduced to create a natural green screen and to frame the seating area, allowing ground-level planting to thrive beneath. This combination delivers seasonal colour, texture, fragrance and a soft yet structured enclosure around the terrace.

Significant regrading work was carried out to form two level lawn areas connected by a gentle curved slope. Steps lead to the summer house, complemented by a grass ramp that makes moving the BBQ out in summer easy and practical. Existing shrubs, including a mature magnolia, were carefully pruned to reveal their sculptural form and enhance seasonal interest.

The result is a brighter, open and inviting garden that is easy to maintain and enjoyable throughout the year. Two defined lawn spaces, improved privacy, and a sun-drenched seating terrace allow the family to relax, socialise and enjoy their garden with ease.
